Ruth Marcus, a columnist and editor for The Washington Put up’s opinion phase, stated she was once leaving the newspaper after Will Lewis, the paper’s writer, killed a column she wrote that was once crucial of the editorial pages’ new route.
Ms. Marcus introduced her resignation in an e-mail to her colleagues at The Put up, announcing she had arrived on the determination to renounce “with immense disappointment.”
“I’m taking this step, after greater than 40 years at The Put up, following Will’s determination to spike a column that I wrote expressing fear in regards to the newly introduced route for the phase and declined to talk about the verdict with me,” Ms. Marcus wrote.
Ms. Marcus is probably the most outstanding author to depart The Put up’s opinion phase after Jeff Bezos, the founding father of Amazon who owns the paper, changed its center of attention to “private liberties and unfastened markets.” David Shipley, the phase’s editor, resigned because of that call.
Olivia Petersen, a spokeswoman for The Washington Put up, stated in a remark that the newspaper was once “thankful for Ruth’s important contributions.”
“We admire her determination to depart and need her the most efficient,” the remark stated.
Ms. Marcus declined to remark.
In her e-mail to co-workers, Ms. Marcus enclosed a message she had despatched to Mr. Bezos and Mr. Lewis. Within the e-mail, she informed Mr. Lewis and Mr. Bezos that the shift for the opinion phase “threatens to wreck the consider of readers that columnists are writing what they imagine, no longer what the landlord has deemed applicable.”
“Will’s determination to to not run the column that I wrote respectfully dissenting from Jeff’s edict — one thing that I’ve no longer skilled in virtually 20 years of column-writing — underscores that the standard freedom of columnists to choose the subjects they need to deal with and say what they believe has been dangerously eroded,” she wrote.
